ECI REC crews have finished the yearly line patrol. At the Spring Creek and Van Horne substations, the contracted 2020 underground circuit inspections are complete. All needed repairs to the system have been made. The crews continue to work on daily construction, pole replacements, maintenance, and Work Plan projects to maintain safe and reliable power.
Sumner Substation
In May, ECI REC crews upgraded the transformer from a 5 MVA to a 10 MVA. Due to economic growth on the south side of Independence, a larger capacity transformer was needed.
Work Plan Projects
This year, ECI REC contractors are working to complete a four-year Work Plan. A total of 269 miles of power lines will be rebuilt by the end of 2020, with an estimated cost of $17.7 million.
Highline Construction has been working to replace 26.5 miles of overhead distribution line. Come mid-June, Highline will have replaced 16.7 miles of line.
CRC Trenching has begun work on the 16.7 miles of underground distribution cable outlined in the Work Plan. As of May 22, 1.7 miles of underground distribution cable has been installed. Work will continue until the project is complete.
