As a member-consumer, you can choose to contribute an additional amount each month to support the development of renewable energy production facilities in Iowa—wind energy is the most prevalent renewable energy source in Iowa. Participating members will not be directly purchasing alternative energy, but rather participating in the development of these resources. Once you have signed up, your participation will continue at that level until you notify us that you wish to change the amount of your contribution or end your participation in the program.
Sign up today by completing the online form below, or by printing the Support Iowa Renewable Energy Program brochure.
Support Renewable Energy FAQs
What will it cost me to support renewable energy? The extra cost is $2.10 for each 100 kWh you sign up for.
Are all members eligible to participate in this program? Yes. If you have more than one ECI REC account, please specify through which account(s) you wish to contribute.
Can I decide at what level I will participate in the program? Yes. Regardless of how many kilowatt-hours you use each month, you can sign up to support the purchase of only 100 kWh or any multiple of 100 kWh.
Will I receive renewable energy directly to my home or business? No. Power from the renewable sources will be fed into the CIPCO electric system, from which ECI REC is supplied. The actual electricity flowing to your home or business will come from a mix of sources, some of which are renewable, like wind turbines or solar panels.
Will power to my home or business depend on the wind blowing? No. Electricity will flow to your home or business regardless of whether the wind is blowing or the sun is shining.
