Looking Out For You
What lawmakers decide in Washington, D.C., or Des Moines can have a significant impact on your electric bill. ECI REC is spending an increasing amount of time communicating with our elected officials to make sure they know who we are, what we stand for, and how specific legislation or government regulations will affect our member-consumers.
As issues arise or if legislation is pending, we will post updates on the Current Concerns page of our website.
Member-Consumer Involvement
For critical issues, we may request that our member-consumers get involved. We may communicate with you and suggest that you send your legislator an e-mail. We may even ask you to call your legislator.
We know you're busy, but the power of many voices is undeniable! ECI REC typically communicates these types of requests via bill inserts, special mailings, and the Heartland Link newsletter.

Iowa Rural Power
Iowa's member-owned electric cooperative advocates have an authentic, American story to tell and are banding together to promote safe, reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible energy for Iowans. Iowa Rural Power takes pride in representing the interests of the rural families and businesses that electric co-ops provide electricity to.
It is more important than ever that policymakers at both the state and federal levels understand how proposed energy policies will uniquely affect the well-being of rural Iowa. Rural Power advocates are leading the way in discussing what needs to be done to ensure electric cooperative member-owners have the power they need to support their communities.
You can help your electric cooperative in this effort by continuing the discussion with friends, family, and elected officials. Get involved today and help make sure policymakers and candidates represent the interests of rural Iowa!
Iowa FORE Political Support
The electric industry faces new challenges in today's political environment. ECI REC's employees and Board of Directors, as well as other cooperatives, work to make sure the voices of electric cooperative members are heard as policies are developed.
We do this through groups such as the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives' Grassroots Advocacy Program. This helps us establish relationships with influential people in local, state, and federal government, as well as the media.
We cannot use Cooperative funds to contribute to the campaigns of the elected officials who best represent our interests. Instead, we encourage our members to support two political action committees:
-
Friends of Rural Electrification (FORE) - Iowa candidates
Candidates who receive support from FORE know ECI REC members and employees who support them want legislators who make good policy decisions on their behalf.
