Tree Trimming
A thoughtfully designed landscape can make your home more attractive while also helping you save energy. However, trees that aren’t properly maintained can sometimes interfere with electric service to homes and businesses. To help keep your power on and ensure everyone’s safety, East-Central Iowa REC (ECI REC) removes vegetation that comes too close to power lines.
If you notice tree limbs near or touching ECI REC distribution lines or equipment, please call 877-850-4343 or complete the online form below, so we can address the issue.
Safe Planting Tips
- Think ahead. Before planting, consider how tall and wide the tree or shrub will grow when fully mature.
- Avoid power lines. Never plant trees under or near overhead power lines if they can grow taller than 15 feet.
- Watch for underground utilities. Roots can damage buried pipes, cables, and wires—and future repairs could harm your plants.
- Maintain access to equipment. Keep areas around electric meters, transformers, and other electrical equipment clear of vegetation.
- Call before you dig. At least 48 hours before digging, contact Iowa One Call to have underground utilities marked.
