ECI REC sometimes gets questions from members about the Facility Charge on their electric bill. This flat monthly charge represents the fixed costs of making electricity available to your meter.
The amount of the charge will vary only with the size of the transformer serving your residence, business, or facility. The cost is fixed because it does not change, regardless of whether you use electricity or how much you use.
The costs covered by this charge include:
- Transformers
- Meter equipment and poles
- Substation and line maintenance
- Facilities/buildings and trucks
- Administration, such as member accounting/billing, services, and information
Whether a member uses 1 kWh of electricity or 1,000 kWh, the Cooperative still incurs the same cost to build the line, maintain the distribution system, and deliver your electricity. ECI REC’s rates are set to recover costs as fairly as possible, so you have the electricity you need when you need it.
