Urbana Iowa, March 6, 2022 – East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative reported today that its Vinton operations center sustained damages from the storms that passed through the Benton County area last evening. The damages were discovered when a line crew arrived at the shop to respond to a power outage. Thankfully there were no occupants in the building. There was significant damage to the overhead doors, roof, and sidewalls at the facility. The co-op’s main fleet of trucks were spared, and crews were able to safely remove them from the building. 

Teresa Floyd, Chief Executive Officer of East-Central Iowa REC, reported that the Cooperative will continue to function as normal. “The Cooperative is implementing its Emergency Response Plan for such an event. Employees have been working to clear and secure the area. Despite the damages all outages were restored by 10:00 p.m.”
