The 21st Annual Meeting of the member of East-Central Iowa REC was held on June 16. This year’s meeting was well attended by an estimated 164 members plus guests.
Board elections for three-year terms were held; four districts were on this year’s ballot. In District 13, Allen Albers was re-elected, in District 17, Burt Byers was re-elected, and in District 23, Jim Alberts was re-elected. Gary McKenna was elected for the first time to represent District 15, from which Bill Frazier retired. At the Board reorganization meeting, held after lunch, the current officers were re-elected: Steve Rau, president; Burt Byers, vice president; Jim Alberts, secretary/treasurer; and Ryan Kress, assistant secretary/treasurer. The amendments to the Articles of Incorporation were also approved.
During the program, last summer’s Youth Tour alumni, Zachary Fischels and Bristian Gerber, shared the trip-of-a-lifetime experiences they had while in Washington, D.C. They thanked the ECI REC Board of Directors and membership for the opportunity. Roger Uthoff, treasurer of Eastern Iowa Honor Flight and a Navy vet, thanked ECI REC for its support. Uthoff asked the veterans in attendance to raise their hands, and those in the audience applauded the men and women who had served our country.
McElroy’s Catering out of Winthrop provided BBQ pork sandwiches, side dishes, and beverages for the luncheon. Joseph and Frank Weber also served ice cream. Members attending the Annual Meeting received food bags courtesy of East-Central Iowa REC and Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, Quaker Oats, and PepsiCo. Leftover food bags were donated to the local food pantry. Door prizes included several gift cards.
Gary McKenna (1) was elected to represent District 15, Allen Albers (2) was re-elected in District 13. Burt Byers (3) was re-elected in District 17 and also to the office of vice president. Jim Alberts (4) was re-elected in District 23 and also to the office of secretary/ treasurer. Also re-elected were President Steve Rau (5) and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Ryan Kress (6).
