On January 23 and 24, ECI REC with homeowners Fred and Terri Smock hosted over 150 guests at a Model Home open house at the Smocks’ residence in Independence. In addition to Fred, Terri, and ECI REC's member service team, contractors Independence Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, Smedley Electric, Don’s Insulation, Winthrop Supply, and Reiter Construction were present to answer guests’ questions.
Featured at the all-electric, energy-efficient home were a geothermal system, premium-grade water heaters, heat recovery ventilation, and more. Guests were especially interested in the geothermal system. With tax credits on geothermal set to expire at the end of 2016, many homeowners will be investigating the benefits of adding a geothermal system this year.
“Because of the location and everything this home had to offer from an energy-efficient and beauty standpoint, we expected a good turnout, and we were not disappointed,” said Adam Albertson, ECI REC director of member service. “We’d like to thank everyone involved for making this open house a success. A special thanks to Fred and Terri for being such gracious and helpful hosts. This home was a true model of what energy efficiency and beauty should look like!”
Each year, ECI REC works with two members building new homes who choose to participate in the Model
Home program, which offers incentives for building with energy-efficient electric products. The program is designed as a promotional tool to create awareness of the benefits of living in an energy-efficient, all-electric home.
Here’s where the Smocks saved with incentives from ECI REC:
- Geothermal – 4.5 cooling tons at $350/ton = $1,575
- Heat pump water heater = $650
- Desuperheater water heater = $150
- Energy-efficient lighting = $600
- Indoor air quality equipment = $250
- All Star Home bonus = $500
Total equipment rebate = $3,725
Model Home bonus = $5,000
Total ECI REC incentive = $8,725
