An outage map that shows ECI REC outages and is updated almost as they happen is now available to our members. Our IT and operations teams are pleased to add this technology so members can stay informed in the event that you or your neighbors have lost power. Click here to explore the map, which you can access from the home page of the website.
This near real-time outage map is integrated with our member accounts, and can be accessed from ECI REC’s website. You will still be able to access the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives’ outage map if you wish; however, for a bird’s-eye view of ECI REC’s service area and general outage locations, ECI REC’s outage map offers more dialed-in information and visuals.
Whenever three or more outages occur, the map will be populated. Individual outages will not appear via the Web map, only internally at ECI REC. Updates occur automatically every minute. Members can zoom in and out, very similar to how you might with Google Maps—in fact, you can zoom in within a half-mile radius. A key accompanies the map, allowing members to see how many members are affected by an outage, if the outage was predicted, if the outage has been verified, and if crews have been dispatched to address the outage. There is also a call log that shows the number of members who have contacted us regarding an outage at hand.
This advanced technology that integrates with our actual member accounts should prove to be very helpful to ECI REC’s members should an outage affect them.
