East-Central Iowa REC experienced a number of weather-related power outages throughout its entire service territory yesterday afternoon and evening. Extreme winds, lightning, and a few unconfirmed tornados were reported throughout ECI REC’s service area. ITC Midwest lost transmission power to three ECI substations in the Buchanan County area, and to two substations in western and southern Benton County, causing power outages to approximately 1,500 members. At the peak of the outage events ECI had over 2,000 members experience power outages.
As wide-spread as outages were, ECI’s distribution system only experienced minor damages, losing seven poles due to trees and other debris going through the power lines.
Due to the hard work and dedication by the line crews and operations department, all but 15 ECI members had their power restored by 2 a.m. this morning. Because of the extensive damages and/or high waters, access to these remaining members was not possible earlier this a.m., however, as clean progresses we will have power restored to all members by end of day today.
We thank all the affected ECI members for their patience and understanding.
