There is now another opportunity for our high school juniors to win an expenses-paid trip on the 2014 Youth Tour. Living with Energy in Iowa, published by the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, is running an essay contest, the winner of which will receive a spot on the 2014 Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This contest is open to current juniors whose parents or guardians are members of ECI REC or any of the other 33 IAEC member cooperatives.
We encourage students to apply for both the ECI REC-sponsored trip and the essay contest. However, if you are chosen as the winner of a trip sponsored by ECI REC, you will become ineligible to win the trip sponsored by Living with Energy in Iowa magazine.
Entrants are asked to write a short (250-word maximum) essay in response to this question: How does your local electric cooperative impact your community? Entries are due no later than March 28, 2014. All essays will be judged anonymously by staff from the magazine and the IAEC. The winner will be announced on April 15, 2014, after all local electric cooperatives will have chosen their 2014 Youth Tour participant(s). The winner will be notified by e-mail and/or regular mail, and his or her name, cooperative name, and all or part of the winning essay may appear in a future issue of Living with Energy in Iowa magazine.
