ECI REC Operations Supervisor Gary Marlow is being promoted to operations manager, effective July 1. Gary will continue to work from the Urbana administrative building where he has been serving the membership as operations supervisor.
Marlow stated, “I’m looking forward to the new challenges this position will bring and know that I can rely on my experience to continue to provide the best possible service to our members.” Marlow began working for the Benton County REC 39 years ago. He has worked as an apprentice lineman, line foreman, line superintendent, and most recently as operations supervisor. Marlow added, “I have enjoyed working in every position that I have held within the organization. It has been exciting to see the industry changes in the delivery of electricity, as well as the growth of the Cooperative through its merger with Buchanan County ECA and the development of various programs―all for the benefit of the members.”
Marlow graduated from the Powerline Program at Northwest Iowa Community College in 1974. An instructor introduced him to then-Benton County REC General Manager Macy Garwood. Garwood asked Marlow to contact him following graduation, and the rest is history.
Marlow always continues to enhance his knowledge and has acquired the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Management Essentials certificate. Marlow also serves as ECI REC’s safety director and manages the Rural Electric Safety Achievement/Accreditations program. Marlow has served on various boards throughout his career, sharing his knowledge with others.
When not working, Gary and his wife, Jill, enjoy riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. Gary is also an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with friends and family on the golf course. He owns a small farm and spends much of his “spare time” working there as well..
