Operations Department Progresses With 2011 Work Plan
Annually, the ECI REC operations department meets to discuss plans for the upcoming year. Topics include the operating and capital budget expenditures; major projects' projected start and completion dates; all maintenance activities such as tree trimming, line inspection schedules, equipment repair, and maintenance; technology updates; mapping updates; and safety expenditures.
"We also take any input our crews may have," said Manager of Operations Steve Marlow. "We make sure everyone involved in the operations of ECI REC has input in the direction of the Cooperative. It's a great way to keep us focused on the same goals."
An amendment to the current Work Plan was also discussed at this meeting. South of Jesup, approximately 9.4 miles of existing 3-phase, underground, l5-kV cable will be replaced with a jacketed version of the same cable. Since the development of the Work Plan, ECI REC has experienced numerous underground cable faults on this section of line.
"This section is a critical tie between the Jesup, Sumner, and Shady Grove substations," said Marlow. "The old cable has come to the end of its useful, reliable life."
This project is targeted for spring completion. The estimated cost is $930,600.
